  4. Keep a close watch on your belongings in a public place.
  5. Remove all cards from your purse or wallet cards that you are not using regularly.
  6. Keep receipts and compare them to your monthly credit card statements. After confirming the match, shred the receipts.
  7. When shopping online, look for signs that a web site is safe - When you're asked to provide payment information, the beginning of the URL should change from http to shttp or https, indicating that the purchase is encrypted or secured.
  8. Do not click on popup ads.
  9. Do not respond to emails that ask you to provide account information.
  10. Use firewalls, anti-spyware, and anti-virus software and keep them up to date.
